The app
notchman stores your notes, clipboard history, timers, time log, screen time, hydration logs, breathing sessions and habits in a single database file in your Application Support folder. That file never leaves your Mac. There is no account, no sign-in, and no analytics or crash reporting inside the app.
The app goes online for only three things. One is Dodo Payments, which checks your license key: activating a Mac sends the key and your Mac’s name, and checking or deactivating it later sends the key and the activation id Dodo gave that Mac. Another is a check for updates, which sends the app version. The third is lyrics: while music plays, Now Playing asks lrclib.net, an open lyrics library, for the song’s lyrics, sending only its title, artist, album and length, and keeps them on your Mac. None of these includes anything you keep in the app.
Revenue (Stripe, Shopify, Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad, Dodo, Polar, Paddle) and Analytics (DataFast) use API keys you connect, stored in your Mac’s Keychain, and talk to those services directly, never through us.
Voice notes are recorded and turned into text on your Mac, with Apple’s on-device speech engine. The audio and the text never leave your Mac.
Dictation works the same way: your voice is turned into text on your Mac by Apple’s on-device speech recognition, and the optional tidy-up runs on Apple Intelligence on your Mac. Rewrite and AI Chat run on Apple Intelligence on your Mac too. What you say, the text you select and the questions you ask are never sent to us or to anyone else, and your dictation history and chats are kept only on your Mac.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. They collect your email and payment details to process the order, issue the receipt and the license key, and handle tax. We receive your email and order details so we can support you and process refunds. The page you land on after checkout asks Dodo for your license key, using the order’s payment id, to show it to you; this site doesn’t store it. See Dodo’s privacy policy.
The website
This site uses DataFast analytics, which records page views and referrers using a random first-party visitor id cookie, not your name or email. When you buy, that id is passed to Dodo Payments with the order so we can see which pages and sources lead to sales. It also uses Google Analytics to count visits. Outside the EU, the UK and Switzerland it sets first-party cookies so it can tell visits apart; in those regions it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Google’s advertising features (Google signals, ad personalisation) are switched off everywhere. No advertising trackers.
Your rights
Email hello@notchman.com to ask what we hold about you or to have it deleted. Deleting the app’s data on your Mac is up to you: remove the notchman folder in Application Support.
