Changelog
What shipped.
Newest first.
Updates arrive inside the app: the notch tells you, and Update now installs it in one click.
0.9.1
- AI Usage no longer keeps asking to use Claude Code's Keychain item. Claude Code renews its sign-in every few hours, and each renewal made macOS ask notchman again. notchman now reads it the way Claude Code itself does, so there's no prompt, and if macOS ever does need your OK again, AI Usage shows an Allow again button instead of a popup appearing out of nowhere.
- The buy screen shows the right price: $4.99, paid once.
0.9.0
- No account and no sign-in. notchman unlocks with the license key from your receipt email, and one key works on up to three Macs. After you buy, one click on the thank-you page opens notchman and activates it, with nothing to copy or paste.
- One price, paid once, unlocks every tool. There's no free version, no trial and no subscription.
- AI Chat, Dictation (⌥⌘K) and Rewrite (⌥⌘L) are included. They run on your Mac: what you say and write isn't sent anywhere. They need macOS 26, and AI Chat and Rewrite also need Apple Intelligence turned on.
- Dictation has a new, compact indicator in the notch while it listens.
- The dock along the bottom shows the tools you've pinned, plus All tools for everything else.
- Settings › License shows your key (only its last four characters) and can deactivate this Mac to free it for another one.
0.8.9
- Grab text and the Clipboard's search inside pictures now read any language they see, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi and Thai (before, only languages written in Latin or Cyrillic letters came through).
0.8.8
- Snippets: the Snippets screen now says what they're doing (on, paused while a password field or password manager has secure typing on, or not working yet). If macOS hasn't given notchman Accessibility, Turn on asks for it, and Fix it clears an old entry when the switch already shows on but snippets still don't work. Saving your first snippet asks for Accessibility straight away.
- Grab text (⌃⌘T): the pill under the notch always shows every option (drag a box, ⌥ any shape, click a line, Space for a window, Esc), and a second grab can no longer leave the screen frozen.
0.8.6
- A small maintenance update, to check that updating is one click from here on: Update now, and notchman restarts by itself.
0.8.5
- Fix: Update now no longer gets stuck on "Restarting notchman…". If an update ever can't restart by itself, the card offers Quit & finish the update.
0.8.4
- Revenue: disconnecting a store works again, right in the notch. It asks in place (no window that closed with the notch), and Undo puts the store back for a few seconds after.
0.8.3
- Updates in one click: Update now in the notch downloads and installs right there, with a progress bar, and notchman restarts by itself and tells you it updated. Update windows no longer pop up on their own.
0.8.2
- Fix: picking a clip in the notch's Clipboard tab pastes where your cursor was again, even after you searched in the tab.
0.8.1
- Grab text (⌃⌘T): hold ⌥ to draw around text that bends or tilts, or click once to take just one line. The screen freezes while you choose, so a playing video holds still, and the words you grabbed light up for a moment.
0.8.0
- New: AI usage (it replaces the Claude tab). Your Claude and Codex session and weekly limits against an even pace, when they reset, what's likely left or when you'll run out, plus today's tokens and what they'd cost on the API. Optional warnings in the closed notch at 80% and 95% and when you're on pace to run out.
- New: Mirror. A quick camera check before a call, mirrored or as others see you, zoom up to 4×, and a pop-out window you can drag and resize. The camera is on only while you're looking.
- Clipboard: snippets. Save a text with a short code like ;addr and typing the code anywhere turns it into the text. Find them in ⌃⌘V by typing ;.
- Clipboard: ⌃⌘T grabs text from anywhere on screen, even in a video or a picture. And → in ⌃⌘V pastes a clip as UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case or one line.
- Calendar: pick any date. A week strip with a dot on busy days, a month to jump anywhere, and a summary of the day you pick: how busy, the longest free gap, calls.
- Charts in Revenue and AI usage: hover a day for its numbers, click it for the detail.
- Revenue: a key a store has refused now says so, and stores are easy to disconnect (Manage or disconnect stores…).
- Settings has a new look, and the notch can now open and close with a click instead of hover (Settings › Opening).
0.7.0
- Revenue now connects seven stores: Stripe, Shopify, Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad, Dodo Payments, Polar and Paddle. Every sale is added up in one total, in US dollars or a currency you pick, and each one shows its store's logo.
- Today, 7 days or 30 days: the change on the period before, your best day, and a bar a day split by store. Pick one store to see only its sales.
- Connecting a store tests the key before saving it, and says what to fix if it doesn't work. Test-mode and sandbox keys work too.
- Today's total in the closed notch if you want it, and a quick peek there with the store's logo for each new sale.
- The eye hides every amount, in the tab and the notch. Keep out of recordings (in ···) hides Revenue from screen shares, like the Teleprompter.
- If a store can't be reached, its last good figures stay in the total and its logo gets an orange dot until you fix it.
- Fixed: a refunded Polar, Dodo or Lemon Squeezy sale took money off your total instead of netting to nothing, and a partial Polar refund counted as the whole order.
0.6.1
- Fixed: notchman could quit when you switched from a resized Teleprompter to another tab.
- Switching tabs after the Teleprompter no longer makes the notch jump or close. It stays hidden from recordings until it closes, then shows in them again.
0.6.0
- New: Teleprompter. Paste your script and it scrolls right under your camera while you record, so you're looking at the lens, not at a second window. A countdown, a speed you can change as you go, three text sizes, and it remembers where you stopped.
- It stays out of your recordings and screen shares: QuickTime, ⇧⌘5 and the many apps that record or share through macOS see what's behind it, not your script. The eye in the tab turns that off; Settings › Recordings and screen sharing can also hide all of notchman, so a clipboard or a note stays private on a call.
- Hands-free: ⌥⌘P opens it and plays or pauses from any app; while it reads, ⌥⌘↑ and ⌥⌘↓ change the speed and ⌥⌘← goes back a line.
- Drag the bar under the script, like a video, to jump to any part and redo it; or scroll to it.
- Make it see-through, down to clear, so the screen behind shows. While it plays, only the words show.
- Drag its bottom edge to make it taller, or a slim strip under the camera.
- Pin it and work behind it: clicks and typing go through to the app underneath. Point at the notch to reach the controls.
0.5.0
- Now Playing sings along: the line being sung shows under the notch and fills with the album's colour, karaoke-style. Open the notch for the whole song, the current line highlighted; click any line to jump there. Lyrics come from lrclib.net (only the song's title, artist, album and length are sent) and are kept on your Mac. Songs with untimed lyrics follow along with estimated timing.
- Hover the notch while music plays for the song and ⏮ ⏯ ⏭, right there; stay a moment, or click the art, to open the panel.
- An ambient glow in the album's colour around the notch while music plays. It never gets in the way of a click, and it's not shown over full-screen video.
- History: the songs you played in the last 30 days, on this Mac. Copy one, or find it again in Spotify, Music or YouTube.
- Each of these has its own switch in Now Playing › Settings.
0.4.2
- Transform is now called Rewrite: same shortcut (⌥⌘L), same rewrites and your saved prompts, with a clearer name. The tab is Rewrite and Pro transforms are Pro rewrites; your history, prompts and words are all where you left them.
0.4.1
- ⌃⌘V anywhere: your clipboard history opens right where you're typing. Pinned clips first, then the latest; 1–9 pastes, type to search, P pins; rest the pointer on a clip (or press Space) to preview it.
- Pictures and screenshots are kept too, and found by the words in them (read on your Mac). Colours show as colours; every clip says which app it came from.
- The Clipboard tab is now visual: clips as cards, filters, click to paste it where you were (or set it to copy), hover to see it big, and drag any card into any app.
- Privacy: passwords, API keys, tokens and card numbers are never kept; ignore apps you choose; pause for an hour; keep history for 7, 30 or 90 days, or forever (your existing history is kept).
- Paste or copy: picking a clip pastes it where your cursor is; switch it to copy in the ⌃⌘V menu (press C) or the Clipboard tab.
0.4.0
- Now Playing in the notch: while music plays (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube in a browser, podcasts, any app), the notch shows the album art and moving bars in the album's colour, and peeks the title and artist when the song changes.
- A new Now Playing tab: big art, a progress bar you can drag, previous / play-pause / next (Space, ← and → too). Click the notch while music plays and it opens here.
- Choose what shows: music in the notch, the peek, how long paused music stays, and apps to ignore. Dictation, recordings and reminders always come first.
- Fixed: switches everywhere in notchman can be turned on with a click anywhere on the row (clicking an off switch sometimes did nothing).
0.3.12
- Update now in the notch opens the same update window as everywhere else (no more "Updating…" message), and updates no longer download silently in the background.
0.3.11
- Fixed: a transform you type yourself now replaces your selection, like the quick actions (it was only copied).
- Replace or Copy: the ⌥⌘L menu has a Then switch (press C) to just copy the result and leave your text as it is. notchman remembers your choice; it's also in the Transform tab.
0.3.10
- Fixed: Update now does what it says. If the update has already downloaded, it installs and restarts notchman right away; if it's still downloading, notchman says so and installs it the moment it's ready.
0.3.9
- Your own prompts for ⌥⌘L: save the instructions you use often in the Transform tab (or straight from your history with Save as prompt). They join the menu after the built-ins, on keys 8 and 9, and you can hide the built-ins you don't use.
- Fixed: Type your own… in the ⌥⌘L menu now takes your typing.
- Dictation and Transform get their own highlighted spot in the tab bar, and the Transform tab now matches Dictation, with a Pro transforms card.
0.3.8
- Fixed: ⌥⌘L now reads your selection in every app, including Chrome, Slack, VS Code and Notion, which don't share it with macOS directly: notchman copies it for you and puts your clipboard back as it was.
0.3.7
- New: Transform. Select or copy some text in any app and press ⌥⌘L: fix grammar, make it shorter, more formal or friendlier, turn it into bullet points, translate it, or draft a reply, or just say what you want. The result streams into the notch; Replace puts it over your selection.
- Transforms run on Apple Intelligence on your Mac for free, or on Pro for longer and trickier text (and on Macs without Apple Intelligence). Pro transforms count the words you transform: your license includes 5,000 words, and the Pro pack now adds 500 minutes of Pro voice and 50,000 words.
- A new Transform tab keeps your recent transforms: the result, what you asked, the app and when. Click one for the original, Copy to use it again. It stays on your Mac.
0.3.6
- Dictation now works on macOS 14 and 15: Pro voice does the transcription, so you don't need macOS 26. The setup and the Dictation tab show your minutes, and if you're offline or out of minutes, the notch says so straight away.
- Your words are never lost: if the connection drops mid-dictation, notchman tries once more, and if that fails too, it keeps the recording in Notes.
- On macOS 26, if the speech model still needs downloading or doesn't support your language, you can use Pro voice instead.
0.3.5
- New: Pro voice for Dictation. Switch it on in the Dictation tab for sharper transcription of names, accents and fast talk; your words go along so they come out right. Your license includes 60 minutes, and more are a Top up away (500 minutes for $9, never expire). If you're offline or out of minutes, your Mac transcribes instead. On this Mac stays the default.
0.3.4
- The update card now stays until you choose Update now or Later: no ✕, and Esc or moving the pointer away no longer dismiss it. Quit before answering and it comes back next time.
0.3.3
- Dictation's notch is smaller: just ✕, your voice and ✓ either side of the notch, sitting nearly flush with it. Voice notes (⌥⌘J) match.
- Your voice now shows as a sound wave rippling out from the notch, swelling as you talk and breathing gently when you pause.
- The bar that floats over the open panel while you dictate or record is slimmer too.
0.3.2
- Fixed: Revenue could still show rupees and Australian dollars after updating to 0.3.1, from amounts saved before the update. Those are cleared, and Revenue shows US dollars as soon as you open it.
- Habits are simpler: no more automatic habits that filled in from Hydration, Breathe, Pomodoros or Hours. Any you had are now ordinary habits you tick off, with their history kept.
0.3.1
- Revenue shows everything in US dollars: each Dodo Payments sale is counted at what Dodo settles to you (and Lemon Squeezy at its USD total), with what the customer paid in their own currency shown beside it. No more rupees and Australian dollars added together at face value.
- Updates arrive within a minute of release: the notch opens once to tell you what's new, with Update now or Later; after that the Update button stays in the header.
0.3.0
- New: Dictation. Press ⌥⌘K anywhere, talk, press ⌥⌘K again, and your words land where the cursor is, cleaned up: fillers gone, corrections kept, punctuation in. Speech is turned into text on your Mac and tidied by Apple Intelligence; nothing leaves it. Add names and terms under Your words so they're spelled right.
- New: Notes replaces the Scratchpad, and your Scratchpad text is the first note. Text notes and voice notes in one list, with titles, pinning, folders and tags, and search across everything, including what you said.
- New: voice notes. Record in Notes, or press ⌥⌘J from any app. They're transcribed on your Mac, named for you, and play back with a waveform and 1.5×/2× speed.
- Reminders are now two levels: the notch, or a takeover that turns every screen black with a ripple from the middle until you act. Ignore the notch for five minutes with Escalate on and it takes over. Notification reminders move to the notch and Alarm reminders to the takeover.
- Fixed: Hours showed 0 after stopping a clock, and could later record entries many hours long. Totals now split at midnight and count the running clock live.
- Fixed: a new task wasn't selected after adding it.
0.2.2
- Reminders at the Notch level now arrive with a ripple: the notch springs open, rings of light spread from it with a soft drip, and it holds still until you deal with it.
- Water reminders use the notch too: a drop, blue ripples, and how much you've had today. Log a glass and it clears.
- Repeat a reminder every 30 minutes, every hour, every 2 hours, every day, on weekdays, weekly, or on the days you pick. Typing "stretch every hour" works too.
- Fixed: "standup every weekday 9:30" typed in the afternoon was set for 9:30 PM.
0.2.1
- New app icon: the notchman mark on graphite, to match the new look.
- The installer window is redrawn in the new style too.
0.2.0
- New look. Every tool is redrawn to match the new notchman: Aeonik type, hairlines instead of boxes, square buttons, and one white bar marking whatever is selected.
- The tools are in a new order that follows a working day — Plan, Work, Focus, Capture, You — with a hairline between each group in the dock.
- Colour now means something: violet for what's live or next, orange only for bad news. Your own calendar and habit colours stay as small dots.
- Fixed: Revenue could count the same payment more than once, so its totals climbed every time you opened it. Existing duplicates are cleared on first launch.
- The full-screen reminder now blurs your desktop behind it instead of going solid black.
0.1.8
- New: Reminders. Type "call dad at 5pm" or "standup every weekday 9:30" and pick how loud it should be: the notch pulses, a notification arrives, an alarm rings until you act, or every screen goes dark until you deal with it.
- Reminders can escalate: ignore one and it climbs a level every five minutes. Snooze for 5, 15 or 60 minutes, and anything missed while the Mac was asleep fires on wake with how late it is.
- Repeat daily, on weekdays, weekly, or on the days you choose.
0.1.7
- New: Calendar. Your next event as a countdown, today and the coming days, a Join button for Meet, Zoom, Teams and more, and a picker for which calendars to show. Reads the Mac's Calendar app, so Google, iCloud and Exchange all work.
- New: Claude. Tokens burned today, messages, tool calls, sessions, the project you're in, and a streak with a 16-week grid, read from Claude Code's own transcripts.
- New: Revenue. Stripe, Polar, Dodo Payments and Lemon Squeezy: today, this week, this month, last 30 days net of refunds, and recent sales. Keys stay in your Keychain.
- New: Analytics. DataFast traffic: live visitors, today and seven days, a 30-day chart, top pages and sources.
- Tasks: to do, in progress and done groups; priorities from low to urgent; click a task to edit it and its subtasks.
- Shelf: search, filters by type, and a list view.
- Settings: switch any tool off and it leaves the dock.
0.1.6
- New: Tasks. To do, in progress and done, one level of subtasks, priorities from low to urgent, ⌘↑↓ to reorder, delete with undo, and unfinished tasks carry to tomorrow with a tag. Stats show cleared days, done this week, and a 14-day chart.
- New: Shelf. Drag a file, image, link or text onto the notch and it waits there. Drag it out into any app, Quick Look with Space, AirDrop or Share from the right-click menu. Search, category filters, grid or list. Files are tracked by alias, so a moved file still resolves.
- Settings: switch any tool off and it leaves the dock. Its data is kept for when you switch it back on.
- Signing certificate renewed. Updates continue to verify with the same update key.
0.1.5
- Categories is now called Hours, with a timeline icon. Screen Time gets a display icon.
- First release delivered by automatic update: 0.1.4 found it on its own and showed the Update pill in the notch.
0.1.4
- The tool switcher is now a dock along the bottom of the panel, clear of the camera. Each tool shows its name in the header with settings and close beside it.
- Updates are automatic: checked shortly after launch and every six hours, downloaded quietly, installed when you say so. An "Update to…" pill appears in the header when one is ready.
- Calories: click a meal to edit it, step back to earlier days to view or fix them, remove a mistyped weigh-in, and start over from the profile.
- Calories: each day keeps the budget that applied that day, so a new weigh-in no longer rewrites past deficits. Days with almost nothing logged are shown grey and left out of projections.
- Calories: quick chips ignore case and use your latest amount; switching kg/lb converts the numbers; setup warns about implausible values.
- If a database was last used by a newer version, the app explains and offers the update instead of failing.
0.1.3
- New: Calories. A daily budget from your goal, one-line meal logging with quick chips, weekly view, deficit over time and a projected goal date.
- Cmd-V and the other edit shortcuts now work in the license field and Settings.
0.1.2
- Automatic updates. The app checks once a day and offers new versions in place.
- Check for Updates… in the menu bar menu.
0.1.1
- App icon.
- Offers to move itself to Applications when launched from the disk image or Downloads.
- Styled installer window with a drag-to-Applications arrow.
0.1.0
- First release: Scratchpad, Clipboard, Timers, Categories, Screen Time, Hydration, Breathe and Habits.
- License activation with a 14-day offline grace period.
