A to-do list in your Mac's notch
Type it, Enter, move away. Check it off when it's done. The rest rolls to tomorrow.

The problem
Task apps want a window, an account and a system. What most days need is three things written down where you'll see them, and a way to tick them off without switching apps.
How Tasks works
Hover the notch, pick Tasks, type, press Enter. The cursor stays in the box so you can add the next one. Click the circle to complete a task: it strikes through, fades, and slides into a Done section at the bottom. Click the circle again to bring it back.
Every task is To do, In progress or Done, and the list is grouped that way, with In progress on top. Whatever is left at midnight stays with a small "since Mon" tag, so the list carries itself forward.
Click a task to open it on the right: rename it, add a note, add subtasks, set its status from a dropdown, and give it a priority from low to urgent, Linear-style, which sorts it within its group. Press Tab in the input box right after adding a task and the next line nests under it.
Select a task and press ⌘↑ or ⌘↓ to reorder, Space to complete, I to mark in progress, 1 to 4 for priority, Delete to remove with a six-second Undo. Nothing is ever lost by accident: deleted tasks are kept for thirty days before they're purged.
Tips
- In progress sits above To do so the thing you're on is always at the top. Press I on a selected task to move it there.
- Completing a task completes its subtasks. Completing all the subtasks doesn't complete the task, because those are different decisions.
Questions
- Does it have due dates or projects?
- No. Three statuses, a priority, and the order you put them in. If you need dates and projects, a full task manager is the right tool and Tasks won't try to replace it.
- What do the stats show?
- Cleared days, a streak of days where you finished something and left nothing open. Tasks done this week. How many are open and how old the oldest is. And a 14-day chart of tasks completed.
- Can subtasks have subtasks?
- No. One level, so the list stays readable in a panel this size.
- What happens to a task I delete?
- It's hidden with a six-second Undo, kept for thirty days, then removed. Stats never count deleted tasks.
